REENIELICIOUS
The Princess

REEN
I'm a princess. I've been blogging on this blog since 2004. I love cute things, pink, dresses, fairytales and tiaras. Shopping is my thing, make-up isn't. Being nineteen isn't easy, especially when you have to worry about grades, life and growing up. I'm currently a Mass Comm student in poly and hoping to become someone important in the media industry. Music is something else I'm into. You'll find me singing most of the time. What else? Oh, I found my prince (:

I had my graduation just last year and I remembered the details like it was yesterday. It is marked as an important ceremony in my life calendar. :D Graduation was filled with excitement, fear, nervous and sadness. School’s graduation ceremony happened before O levels. ( I think. Short Term Memory in process. ;x ) Anyways, back to the topic. It was like entering a whole new phrase in life. Different reactions were seen. The happy ones. “YEAH MAN! FINALLY!!!” The sad ones. “Oh man.. I don’t want to leave secondary school. I will miss all my friends..” (and mumbles on.) And of course the ones with mix feelings. I guess they just didn’t know how to react to it. Me? Well, I was kind of glad to graduate as I’m all excited to be able to enter polytechnic soon but on the other hand, it makes me wonder if I’m going to lost touch with my dear friends. (I miss them loads now!) School’s ceremony came and pass like a blur thus I do not have memories about it. But hey, the best part about graduation is.. ? PROM NIGHT !!! It’s one thing that gets all graduates excited, guys and girls !

Growing up, I watched a lot of American teen shows and cartoons. When I first heard about prom, it was on television. I had no idea what it was due to the fact that I had never experienced it before. (Not even in primary school, apparently, they seem to add prom night in after I graduate from the school.) So from what I seen, my idea of graduation is to wear a pretty dress, get asked to the prom by crush, crush fetching me from my house, gives me flower, compliment me and we will party the whole night long. And of course, maybe even a chance to win prom queen. That was basically what I get out of the American shows on high school prom. I guess, Singapore’s prom is a tad different but I was not disappointed about it either. After experiencing my prom, I realized there was a whole lot of preparation to do before the real thing. And that’s where my story comes in.

Months before prom, we were asked for our attendance. Questions like whether they should have prom, the amount we are willing to pay for the prom and other miscellaneous things. That was way before the major O period. I was piped up though, especially with the thought of going shopping for a pretty prom dress. I had a mental countdown timer in my mind. Exams went by slowly and tiring, but that’s another story. Imagine the excitement I had when exams were finally done with. As a girl, shopping was a major issue. I wanted to find the perfect dress. Who doesn’t? When holidays started, many shopping trips were planned as my girlfriends and I shopped mall after mall. We needed the right dress with the right shoes. One by one, they found what they wanted as the days till prom gets lesser. Disappointment sets in when I really did not find what I want. And then, something happened just a few days before prom. I finally found a simple black tube dress that was cute enough for prom yet casual enough to wear after prom. As they say, a little black dress is always in style and essential for a girl. :)

Then, it was THE day. Prom was held at Raffles Town Club :D The preparation was a blur which I actually could remember. (lucky!) Anyways, it was not really what I imagined. Firstly, I was talking about how girls will be asked to the prom by crushes or like, cute guys? Well, that totally didn’t happen in Singapore. I guess, it’s the fact that we don’t have this tradition here. You’ll only have a date if you already have a girlfriend/boyfriend. It is kind of weird to experience prom when it’s not what you expected. A lot of girls went to the prom as a group. Me? I met with a couple of good girlfriends to go :D Hey, who needs a date when you can share one of the most important events of your life with close friends? We met up at one of my friends’ house to prepare. A friend, fang, helped us to put on makeup xD It was kind of weird considering that I don’t use make up at all. After a bunch of testing makeup, wearing dresses, fake nails, accessories and finally slipping on my new pair of silver heels, I was ready !

We cabbed to the place and I was amazing. There were people(all familiar faces) standing on the front steps. It was a princess moment. *Dreamy look* Door opening, I stepped out with my shiny silver heels. Clutching my purse and my shawl, I looked around with a smile and smooth down my dress. And then, we entered the palace. (well, club.) We had to go through registration then was asked to be seated. Compared to the American prom, where there were food everyone and music constantly on 24/7 with people partying, I can’t help but say it was a tad boring. Mine was filled with dinner(which was quite good though), performances(that you can’t really see from the table) and speeches. Oh, there was about half an hour of dancing in the arranged dance area. One fact I learned about myself, I can’t wear fake nails. From ten nails, I was left with half at the end of the night. ;x (I’m not rough okay! Don’t laugh! ) The day ended with lots of photo taking and lots of chatting. We’re going to separate soon and move into a new phrase of life where we will make our own friends. Sounds exciting? But, it is kind of scary too. I looked at my friends, in my pretty simple dress and wondered how is it going to be without them? I knew we would be going separate ways and can’t help but to feel a pang of loneliness.

Even though Prom and graduation was not really what I expected, it is still a whole new experience to me that would forever (hopefully) embedded in my mind. Graduation is the end of my four years of secondary school life and opened a whole new world for me. In high school musical 3, the gang is ready to face graduation. Similarly to my graduation experience, the gang will be facing the problem of going separate ways to different colleges.
