REENIELICIOUS
The Princess

REEN
I'm a princess. I've been blogging on this blog since 2004. I love cute things, pink, dresses, fairytales and tiaras. Shopping is my thing, make-up isn't. Being nineteen isn't easy, especially when you have to worry about grades, life and growing up. I'm currently a Mass Comm student in poly and hoping to become someone important in the media industry. Music is something else I'm into. You'll find me singing most of the time. What else? Oh, I found my prince (:

Wrapping up Worldskills Singapore
Friday, January 21, 2011

It's the last day of Worldskills and the competitions come to an end.
Even the bloggers' staycation/work.
But before I rushed off to the NTU talk in the afternoon, I managed to capture some photos for visual merchandising. Something I'm really interested in but not reported in my blog yet.

Before you ask, visual merchandising is where the designer creates a visual display of a product. You know, like shop windows? It requires certain amount of creativity, ability to create things that are visual appealing and able to conceptualise.

Competitors rushing to complete their displays. Clothes and stuff are sponsored by Isetan!

This is pretty simple but it's not the end result. (I was there in the morning! The competition ended around 4?)
A really adorable kids' apparel layout. I love the clean design, it looks professionally done!

One of the competitors working hard on a Adidas display. Competitors have to make their own display sets, paint it and settle their own mannequins. It's a lot of work!

Working on one of the more colourful displays at the competition..

The only guy in the competition and the only one working on products instead of clothes. It looks like a 3D ad! I think its interesting to use Wonderwoman for skincare products.

This is my personal favourite. It's not completed so I'm not sure how it will look like when its finished, but I like it. I can imagine a woman in that dress, walking in the woods. She's twirling around and singing a happy song. So dreamy!

I think every little girl went through the stage where she wants to be a fashion designer. Some went own to pursue that dream and for the others, it just ended. I mean, who doesn't want to design their very own dress? Well, I know I did. It was one of my dream careers. Sometimes, it is hard to find a dress you like in the market and you think, "I can design something nicer." or "If I was a designer, I would..." Imagine your own collection that you can wear everyday. Sigh.

I grew up with that dream and occasionally, I would sit down with my sketch book and draw designs. Those "masterpieces" are now somewhere in my room. I love doing it as a hobby but I never took the next step. Looking at the competition, I would love to give a try at visual merchandising if I have an opportunity too. It looks really fun, to see your creations come alive for the world to see. The designers would be your best friend because you give life to their clothings. A good window display can do wonders for the products.

And that was it. I only had time to look at one competition and I had to leave. It was down to a simple goodbye.
